I recently stumbled upon something truly fascinating with my Zigbee setup, and I just had to share it with the community! I’ve been using an Osram Lightify Zigbee bulb for a while now, and it’s been working like a charm. But the real magic started when I got an Aquara 6-way Zigbee wall switch. Now, here’s the kicker: I haven’t even configured the switch properly yet, but it’s somehow controlling my bulb without any explicit setup!
Let me walk you through it. The switch is registered as a thing, but it’s incorrectly categorized as a Lumi.remote. I’ve only got one “Level Control” dimmer-channel linked, and there’s no rules file in play. Despite all this, pressing button 2 on the switch dims the bulb to 50%, and button 1 turns it off completely. It’s like they’re communicating on some secret Zigbee wavelength!
I’ve checked the logs, and all I see are state changes for the bulb. Nothing else seems to be logged, which is a bit puzzling. I’ve also set the Zigbee binding to INFO level, but no additional insights there. So, the big question is: How is this happening? Is there some implicit connection or component I’m unaware of that’s making this magic work?
I’d love to hear from anyone who might have encountered something similar or has a theory on what’s going on. Maybe it’s a feature I haven’t discovered yet, or perhaps it’s a quirk of the Zigbee protocol. Either way, it’s pretty amazing to see these devices working together without any manual intervention!
If anyone has any ideas or experiences to share, I’d be thrilled to hear them. Let’s unravel this mystery together! ![]()
