When creating automations based on sunrise or sunset in the Aqara app, is there a way to add an offset (for example, trigger 30 minutes before sunset or 1 hour after sunrise)?
Right now, it seems the automation only allows an exact sunrise or sunset time. It would be much more useful to adjust by a set number of minutes or hours. Is this possible in the current app, or is it planned for future updates?
Hello, intensive testing of automation version 2.0 is underway. Your suggestion is already working there. Wait until everything is officially launched (2.0). Thank you for the suggestion.
I will supplement my answer, these conditions will become local (sunrise, sunset). They are based on the internal calculation of the gateway depending on its location in a certain point in the world.
Perhaps they are already local to you.
That’s a really good suggestion — and the good news is: it’s already available in the new Automation 2.0 feature (currently in beta). It allows you to set offsets for sunrise and sunset, like triggering 30 minutes before or after. Definitely a step in the right direction!
That said, I’ve found that sunrise/sunset alone isn’t always ideal. What really matters for many automations is how bright or dark it actually is — not just the time.
For example, 10 minutes before sunrise on a sunny summer day feels very different than the same time on a cloudy winter morning.
So in my case, I prefer to use light level (Lux) values from light sensors — either stand-alone ones or built into motion sensors — to control lighting and other automations more reliably.
