Alarm Light Idea

Looking for some ideas on an automation for my Aqara alarm system. I have a video camera hub, and a M2 hub connected to Apple HomeKit. I do have some lights that are connected through automation to my alarm that are red when armed, but they’re in locations in the house that the family can’t see. Ideally, I’d like to have some type of light notification to tell the family the status of the alarm that can show the family if the alarm is armed or not. Preferably something like a nightlight. Any ideas would be helpful.

@fjjosh Here’s a practical automation idea based on your setup! Since you have an M2 hub and want a visible nightlight-style status indicator, you can leverage Aqara’s alert system conditions to link the alarm status to a nightlight or smart bulb in a common area (like the living room or hallway).

First, head to the Automation section in the Aqara Home app. For the trigger, select “IF alert system” (choose modes like “Away” or “Night” for when the alarm is armed) . Then, set the action to “THEN adjust light color/brightness” for a visible nightlight—Aqara’s LED Bulb T2 (mentioned in Camera G100 automations) or even the night light function of Hub M1S Gen 2 (which supports night light on/off conditions) could work well here . For example:

  • Armed status: Set the nightlight to glow red (low brightness to avoid glare).
  • Disarmed status: Switch it to green or turn it off.

This way, the family can easily glance at the nightlight to check the alarm status. Since your M2 hub connects to HomeKit, the automation should sync smoothly if the nightlight is compatible with both Aqara and HomeKit ecosystems.

Have you tried any Aqara smart bulbs or nightlight-equipped devices before? It might help narrow down the best fit!

Use an Aqara socket or relay in an automation to which you connect a red light source, a status indicator. IF it is armed - then the socket/relay turns on…

Hello, you don’t need to do automation. According to lesson 5 fig.6, 6a, you can choose a lamp (switch) which after On or Off can start or stop the security alarm. I showed in my lesson how the camera can control this process. Lesson 5. Setting up the APP security system (arming/disarming the security alarm)
