After updating to iOS 27.2 today Apple Home moved 20+ Aqara devices to the room the device Hub Aqara M3 is assigned.
Example: Aqara FP300 Sensor in the Hallway bound to an Aqara M3 Hub in a Server Room. The Hallway FP300 Sensor also had several automations associated with it.
The update deleted the automations and moved all the FP300 sensor to the Server Room where the Aqara M3 Hub is assigned. The Server room has 20+ devices all reassigned to the Server Room. (Leak Sensors, Temperature Sensors, FP300 x 15).
Since the devices were moved out of individual rooms the automations were removed/deleted. This has occurred a few times in the past and I wish Apple would fix this. What a MESS!
Trying to figure out where each device is suppose to be or where it’s actually located is a pain. Looking up serial numbers and reassigning rooms back to their original locations is not fun.
So Apple Smart Home users be aware and after the update check your Aqara devices and make sure things are still where you assigned them. Check your automations and make sure they weren’t deleted after the update.
Well apple likes to mess things up.i don’t have this issue but my be is because i already reset my M3 2/3 days ago being on 27.2 RC sow yesterday i only got an few MB update.my only issue since ios27 is that apple home app drain batterie during the night when my iPhone is on standby.today an representan from apple will call me and see what they can do to investigate this issue.in the past 5 nights apple home app drained between 22/33% of my batterie during the night is an good amount of batterie.this is what i call it an big mess.more since ios27 why the devices power by batteries showing the power consumption on apple home app and not the batterie status?this is another issue that apple home app doesn’t detect the device if is powered or batterie very well on the screenshot is my Aqara w100
I managed to get all the devices put back to their originally assigned locations. I used Home Assistant to tell me where they should be by looking at the device serial numbers.
I wish Apple would add the option to back up all the Apple Home settings. Discovering a device in Apple Home is gone and looking around the Apple Home app trying to find devices is another pain.
That is why I pointed out it appears the devices were all assigned to the connected parent Hub room assignment. That made it a little easier to find devices.
Good question, I keep thinking about that each time it’s happened. I think this is the 3rd time. The others were? More than a year ago going back to when I originally found it happen was around the push to the new architecture.
I don’t use Beta software (ever) and keep things pretty tight. I’ve not been able to narrow it down to anything yet. I’ve found others have had it happen but no one has offered any reasons or solutions that I have read.
This has happened to me before with other hubs. I can’t recommend Controller for HomeKit enough for backups. It works really well. You back everything up and you can restore the whole home or individual components, including their use in scenes and automations.
Yes, I forgot that app. I do have that “For Life” option on that app. I was using it and backing up monthly in the past. I grew tired of that app a while back and focused on other things.
I’m going to dive back into that app. Thanks for the reminder.
I updated my devices to anyAppleOS 27.2 (Beta) a few weeks ago and my home hubs last week. It wasn’t a problem at all. I wanted to test the new Sound Glow feature on my HomePod mini. My Apple Home didn’t get damaged at all.
Thanks for the heads-up. My setup is a bit different. Everything in my house is Matter-based, and the G410 doorbell is my only Aqara hub. Its chime acts as the Matter bridge and Thread border router, and an Apple TV is my Home hub. I keep all my automations in Apple Home, and the only Aqara one is a TM10 ceiling light triggered by an Ovis motion sensor. Has anyone worked out whether this only affects devices paired through a separate Aqara hub like the M3? It’d be useful to know whether setups like mine are safe.
