Aqara G5 Pro: Your Feedback in Action – New Features & Improvements Announced!

Hi Aqara users,

First and foremost, thank you. Your candid feedback about the G5 Pro’s subscription model and feature limitations was invaluable. We’ve listened, and today, we’re excited to share major updates that address your concerns head-on. Our goal is to ensure subscriptions are truly optional while empowering you with robust local functionality.

Here’s what’s changing:

:one: Free Cloud Storage for all new and existing users
New users get 24 hours of free cloud storage (for 6-months). No trial activation or payment credentials are required upfront. Existing G5 Pro owners: Remove and re-add your camera via the Aqara Home app to activate this benefit or wait for the update (Firmware 4.3.4).

:two: Local Functionality Improved
Detection & Automation Timeouts Removed: No more paywalls for detection frequency (down to 15 seconds). (App 5.1.9)

Local Clip Download: Download event clips directly to your phone (App 5.2.0, Firmware 4.3.4).

“No Motion Detected for N Seconds” Automation Condition: The spotlight behavior will now be able to be fully configured (Firmware 4.3.4).

:three: Timeline & Playback Upgrades
Fast-Forward Buttons: Smoother navigation for local recordings (App 5.2.0).

AI Event Markers on Local Timeline: See labeled events (faces, pets, vehicles) without a subscription (App 5.2.0, Firmware 4.3.4).

Local Timeline Snapshots: when the events are not detected, the camera will take pictures once in several minutes so that you don’t have empty gaps on the timeline. (Firmware 4.3.4)

:four: Storage & Recording Flexibility
24/7 SMB NAS Recording: Use your existing NAS for continuous recording! (Target: firmware 4.3.4 – testing in progress, may be released later).

ONVIF Support: Integrate with third-party NVRs for advanced setups (Firmware 4.3.4).

:five: AI Improvements
Reduced false alerts (e.g., animals tagged as humans) and refined detection zones (Firmware 4.3.4).

Why This Matters?

We’ve always believed in local-first, privacy-focused devices. These updates reaffirm that commitment:

Subscriptions are optional: Pay only for cloud-exclusive perks (longer storage, advanced functionalities).

Your hardware, your rules: Full control over detection, automation, and storage – no strings attached.

Timeline:

Most features go live with Firmware 4.3.4 (released on April 20th), App 5.2.0 (released on April 20th) and App 5.1.9 (released on April 4th)

Please note that the firmware and the app versions might be released in batches and might need some time to roll out to all the users.

In the update description, I did not see the WiFi network switching fix, the developers said that the network switching function will be carried out through BLE.

As it is written in the message, it will take more time, when this function starts working, they will notify you about it, this is the response from the developers.

I didn’t ask you to comment, I know what the developers are doing.

This is awesome news. I love my G5 the build quality is fantastic and I still can’t get over the picture quality! Fav product so far by a mile!

It will be come soon.

A very welcome change from a company who clearly cares about their customers! Well done . I believe this has been a great move by Aqara and has already been met with enthusiasm and thanks. It will solidify the faith in the brand and will hopefully drive more business and success for Aqara.

@Stian Hey Stian! Thanks for keeping your Camera Hub G5 Pro up to date! Unfortunately, I don’t have specific details on the fixes or corrections in firmware 4.3.3. However, I recommend keeping an eye on official release notes within the Aqara Home app or on the Aqara website for the most accurate and up-to-date information. If the community has any insights, I’m sure they’d be happy to share. Let’s keep exploring and improving together!
