Any chance this has a better range than the “E” version?
It is worth mentioning that the M100 apparently doesn’t support local control, only local automations. If there’s no Internet or there’s an Aqara cloud outage you won’t be able to control devices with Aqara app.
According to the post and comments, there’s a LAN control option for the M3 but seems to be missing in M100.
Or maybe it can and the “problem” was that the user also had an E1 and then the whole option was disabled even if devices connected to M100 could have been controlled.
Does the M100 work offline with Aqara app if you only have a M100?
This is incorrect, I’ve tested the local control with a wireless switch and a light bulb, I connected the M100 to a temporary VLAN WIFI and setup the bulb and the switch to the M100.
I then created and automation that on button click would toggle the light.
I can confirm that after disabling the VLAN Wifi that the M100 was connected to and checking that the M100 was flashing indicating that it had no network connection the automations still executed.
This has always been my understanding with Aqara Hubs.
You didn’t test local control then, just local automations which is a different concept.
If you read the post I linked, there’s a Local LAN control option you can enable in M3 hub so the Aqara app can control devices offline by connecting to the hub directly without the cloud. According that user and comments, the M100 does not support local LAN control, only control through the cloud.
You are indeed correct as only the M3 is capable of local control, sorry for misunderstanding, I always new that was the case as indeed I should have stated that this was a local control with full WiFi disconnection.
Yeah, I have one too, it’s great from my experience with it, it works with no flaws so far with my devices.
Thanks but, again, I made the distinction clear in my comment to avoid misleading people: local automations is not local control, even if you can control specific features in a device via an automation using a smart button.
Without full local control, in case of an outage like couple days ago, you are limited to a handful of automations you had to create in advance and lose actual control of all the device features.
The M3 has both local automations and local control and that woud be a huge advantage over the M100 that is usually not mentioned and is worth considering.
I use one too, it’s great for the price!
