This is been one of the most frustrating Aqara install. It took me forever to get my U400 to add to Apple home however, I can not get it into the Aqara app. In apple home the batter shows it is at 26% and yes I did restart my phone. It has been on the charger plugged into a charging brick for over 3 hours and the light is still red.
Do I have to send an email to anyone I want to have access to the lock? I want my Grand daughter to have here own code.
How can I update firmware when I can’t add my U400 to the Aqara app. I have been pulling my hair out on this one. If I use the reset button will the also make me add it in Apple Home. I hope not as it took me 3 hours to get it in to there. Please let me know what to do.
Greg
Hi there! If you’re looking for a chime sound when the door is automatically locked, please refer to this chat for more details:
Hi there! Could you please let us know your current binding flow?
If you’ve already connected the lock to Apple Home first, then bound it to Aqara Home via Bluetooth, and finally added an Aqara Home hub, please refer to this link for detailed, step-by-step instructions.
Dear user, we apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced while setting up your device. To ensure you have all the information you need, we have compiled detailed guides and tips for daily use below.

How to Charge Your U400
We recommend two convenient methods for keeping your lock powered. Both require a 5V 2A power source:
| Feature | Method 1: On-Door Charging | Method 2: Battery-Only Charging |
|---|---|---|
| How-To | Connect a USB-C cable to the port at the bottom of the inner lock body. | Remove the Li-ion battery and connect the USB-C cable directly to it. |
| Time | ~14 hours to full charge. | ~7 hours to full charge (Faster). |
| Pro-Tip | Place a power bank in a small bag and hang it on the handle for easy charging. | Note: The lock will not work while the battery is removed. Always carry your physical key as a backup! |
Charging Indicator: The light on the battery will turn green when fully charged. You can monitor live battery levels and charging status in both the Aqara Home and Apple Home apps.
Sharing Access with Family
Sharing access is simple and secure via the Apple Home app:
- Open Apple Home and go to Smart Lock U400 Settings.
- Tap Manage Access > Invite People.
- Options:
- Access Codes: Share a simple PIN code.
- Resident or Guest Invite them to your “Home” so they can use UWB (Hands-free) unlocking or Tap-to-Unlock using their iPhone or Apple Watch.
Thanks for sharing your feedback .
We’re actively working on supporting more Matter logging and push notification feature. It’s currently one of our top priorities. Thank you for your attention and support!
Thanks for your feedback! Regarding charging, after updating to v3.1.0_06 / v3.1.0_07, the charging speed has been improved. Also, there’s a Type-C port on the bottom of the indoor lock, so you can keep it charging without removing the battery. This is especially handy if you’re away from home for a period of time.
Using the W200 and G410 together with the U400 really delivers an excellent overall experience. ![]()
You’ve made a very good observation!
To save power, the iPhone will disconnect from the lock’s UWB if you stay near the door for a while. When this happens, reconnecting can take a few seconds. However, if you move far enough away from the lock, the phone and lock will reconnect via Bluetooth and UWB, and unlocking speed will return to normal.
We’ve spent a lot of time optimizing the balance between power consumption and user experience. In the future, we hope to share more insights about UWB once we’re allowed to.
Make sure when you copy the Pairing Code that you DO NOT COPY PASTE, they know there is an issue and you have to manually enter the code.
A nice feature would to be able to put two cameras on the “linked devices” I have a camera inside and outside of my front door. Would love to have a split screen to see them both.
Re battery charging…
I had used the usb c connector on the bottom of the lock and a cable and charger as my outlet is very close to the door. Once again, it only charged to 77 percent so not sure if this method of using the exterior connector works well.
Regarding more torque for the bolt…
New users need to understand door mechanics. When installing any electronic lock, door alignment is critical. Making sure the manual dead bolt works flawlessly before trying to install an electric lock. Frames come out of alignment, doors can sag. Making sure your hinges are tighened down on the door and on the jam.
Making sure the door handle latch catches correctly and brings the door into the correct position is key to avoiding scraping the bolt on the plate. That’s 4 different contact points to take into consideration.
Newer insulation strips around the door apply outward pressure so the door must latch properly.
Spend the time up front and many of the issues people have described will go away. Maybe a video on the basics (spans all electric door locks) is warranted.
Hi team -
Now that my lock is up and running, it’s been working great. I don’t have the torque issues others have experienced, but my door is in alignment. I can see how a sagging door can cause issues.
Walk up unlock has been great, however there are times when I’ll approach quickly from the right and it misses the UWB unlock. If we could adjust the sensitivity (maybe at the expense of battery life?) that would be great. Normal day-to-day approaches work well, however.
My biggest critique is the out of the box setup with Apple HomeKit. I am a savvy user with a large HomeKit setup. Ultimately, I needed to reset the U400 four times before HomeKit accepted the pairing request. It was frustrating, but I knew there was a light at the end of the tunnel. My concern is this will result in a return of product by less savvy consumers expecting a smooth install process.
Otherwise, bravo to a great product!
Thankfully not a bug report. I’ve got the U400 running via thread with Homekit, and dual controlled with Home Assistant without issue, and happy to say the firmware update solved the battery level bug for me.
A possible improvement/feature request, is it possible to surface the door open/closed state? I’m not sure if there’s a limitation in the Matter spec, but it would be useful to have. Granted I could use a door sensor to accomplish the same thing, but that’s an additional battery I have to maintain when my previous Yale locks provided door state.
Is the nickel version going to be more expensive to accommodate the new battery? I am asking because I only received one battery with mine and would think if it was the same price we would be able to get another battery sent to us for free since we were early adopters?
I’m on day 2 trying to get my U400 into aqara app
I just read this
- n the Aqara Home app, open the U400 device page and tap the Cloud icon.
- Tap “Connect” and select “Join Aqara Home through sharing.”
- Select “Apple Home,” then tap “Enter Matter Pairing Code.”
- Switch to the Apple Home app: Go to the U400 settings and tap “Turn On Pairing Mode” to generate a code.
- Manual Entry (Important): Switch back to the Aqara Home app and manually type in the code generated by Apple Home.
- Press the Set button once on the lock, select your bound Aqara Hub, and follow the final prompts to complete the binding.
7.Note on Pairing Codes:* Currently, you must manually type the Matter pairing code into the Aqara Home app. The “Copy and Paste” function is not supported for this specific step at this time. We are working on a fix to make this easier in a future
Where is the “Cloud Icon” ?
Open the U400 device page? How can you do that since the device is not in the app yet
I have been sending emails and have not received anything that can help me with this issue.
GREG BOUTEN
Just ordered mine. Can’t wait to see how it function. Looks like a game changer.
I would like 2 things:
- Offer the ability to purchase extra batteries
- An Automation Trigger based on battery level
Thank you.
After updating to the beta, the auto unlock on close setting didn’t work until I pulled the battery and put it back in. Not sure of anyone else encountered this as well.
Make lite version no keypad & no finger. Keep everything
