Best security cameras for home-Which one is really worth it?

Hello everyone,

I really need some honest opinions from people who have experience with home security cameras… This time, I’ve tried to do much more thorough research before asking for advice I have checked large review sites, professional tech blogs, YouTube reviews, and various forums, including Reddit and home‑security communities. After reading and watching tons of impressions, these models are the ones that keep getting recommended:
Aqara G100, 2K Indoor/Outdoor Security Camera, HomeKit Secure Video, 2-Way Audio, Spotlight Color/IR Night Vision, AI Detection

Aqara 4MP Camera Hub G5 Pro WiFi, True Color Night Vision Security Camera Outdoor, 2.4/5Ghz WiFi, HomeKit Secure Video, Thread Border Router, Local Detection,

I mainly want something that offers accurate motion detection, clear video (especially at night), and reliable long‑term performance. I use my cameras to monitor both indoor and outdoor areas, so I prefer systems that are not too complicated to set up but still deliver sharp, detailed footage and dependable alerts. If you have used any of these models, or if you know a better option in the same price range, I would really appreciate your input. I do not want to waste money again, and all of the options above seem promising, but I’m having trouble deciding. Your advice would help a lot.Thank you very much

I currently have both (multiple) the G5 Pro WiFi and the G100. Between the two models the nighttime view on the G5 is outstanding. The change I would make if I could go back is to get the poe powered G5. The G100 offers great picture quality but if mounted outside ensure you have a way to mount the power, same goes for the G5.

For indoor monitoring I currently have the Aqara E1 (multiple) as I like the fact that I can have them off facing a wall when not in use.

For outdoor use I’d recommend the G5 because of the video quality and color night vision. The g100 can be a good outdoor camera and great inside one.

Hi,
I also would recommend the G5 if you need a good quality- specially at night! But of course it’s lots of features, because it’s Aqaras premium outdoor version.

But the G100 is a great value for it’s price

You are looking for:

  • accurate motion detection.
  • clear video (day and night).
  • reliable long‑term performance.
  • systems that are not too complicated to set up.
  • sharp detailed footage and dependable alerts.

Hi, I’m new in AQARA and IoT.
I am also looking for smart security system with IoT capability.
After some time spent just to watch reviewer from Youtube, I found 2 devices that meet my needs:

  • AQARA Camera Hub G5 Pro (32GB eMMC built-in & WiFi version)
  • Reolink Elite WiFi (180 deegre view)

I have tried AQARA Camera Hub G5 Pro (32GB eMMC built-in & WiFi version).
The product is superb, super duper easy to setup, offer fair cloud service price.
I am okay with the tiny 32GB built-in eMMC storage. I can simply subscribe the cloud service.
The cloud recorded timeline is beyond expectation, they smartly label the event.
I do 200% okay if they brings expandable microSD local storage and this recorded event with label.

The local AI detection features almost meet my expectation.
Not only motion detection, but it can detect human from far.

The main feature that I want the most is Lingerer Detection.
Unfortunately, unlike other AI detection features, this Lingerer Detection lack of Detection Region. Without it, we can’t fine tune which area we want to set.
I made a post regarding this issue:
https://forum.aqara.com/t/camera-hub-g5-pro-wi-fi-lingerer-detection-feature-missing-detection-region/249096?u=viktoria

I believe they will make it avalable in the next software updates.
but for now, I have decided to return the product and want to try the other one I mentioned (just order today).

AQARA Camera Hub G5 Pro:

  • accurate motion detection. (YES)
  • clear video (day and night). (haven’t tried in dark mode)
  • reliable long‑term performance. (not sure)
  • systems that are not too complicated to set up. (YES)
  • sharp detailed footage and dependable alerts. (YES)

The Camera Hub G350, showcased at CES, could be a great indoor choice with its 4K resolution, 360° panning, 9x hybrid zoom, and AI tracking. To my knowledge, we’re still waiting on an official release date. For outdoor setups, I’d also suggest the Aqara G5 Pro Camera Hub; the “Pro” designation highlights its built-in NPU, which handles AI tracking locally.
