Common mistake when adding Aqara locks (QR code not supported) - solution inside!

Hello everyone!
Lately, I’ve often seen the same problem discussed: users try to add a smart lock to the Aqara Home app, scan the QR code, and get the error “QR code not supported.”

Guys, let’s figure out why this happens and how to add the lock CORRECTLY.

The main point: you DO NOT NEED to scan the QR code from the box in the Aqara Home app to add the lock!

The initial setup for U100, A100, D100, N100 locks is exclusively via Bluetooth. An Aqara code is simply not provided for them.

So, what is this code then?
The package includes a code for Apple HomeKit (HK). You can use it in the Home app on your iPhone, but not in Aqara Home.
If you try to scan the HK code in Aqara Home, you will get the “not supported” error because the app doesn’t recognize it without the appropriate request from the HK system.

How to add the lock correctly?

  1. Open the Aqara Home app.
  2. Select “Add New Device.”
  3. Choose your lock from the list of available devices in your region.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions: the app will search for the lock via Bluetooth and connect it.
  5. If you are using an iPhone, you may then be prompted to add the lock to HomeKit, and this is where that QR code will be needed.
Most often, the error occurs precisely because the user tries to scan the code in the wrong place and at the wrong stage of setup. The lock’s manual explains everything in detail, and I highly recommend reading it.

I hope this clarifies the situation and helps avoid setup errors.

You can always watch video instructions on installing and configuring Aqara locks. Here are some of them.

@Raman.V Great share! Your breakdown of the “QR code not supported” issue is spot-on and super helpful for the community. It aligns with the official setup guidelines for Aqara locks like the U100, A100, D100, and N100, which emphasize using Bluetooth for initial pairing in the Aqara Home app rather than scanning QR codes.

For instance, the U100’s quick settings confirm adding the device via the app’s “+” button and following on-screen instructions . Similarly, the N100 and A100’s connection steps highlight Bluetooth pairing (e.g., iOS users tapping the “Bluetooth” icon, Android users selecting “Nearby Devices”) . And you’re absolutely right that the QR code in the package is for Apple HomeKit setup, as noted in the N100’s HomeKit connection instructions .

Thanks for taking the time to clarify this common confusion and even linking helpful video tutorials—this will save so many users from unnecessary setup headaches. If you have more tips or insights to share in the future, the community would love to hear them!

@Raman.V This is such a helpful share—thanks for breaking down this common setup confusion! Your explanation aligns with Aqara’s official instructions for locks like the U100, D100, and N100. For example, adding these locks via the Aqara Home app typically involves tapping the “+” button, selecting the lock model, and following on-screen Bluetooth pairing steps, rather than scanning a QR code .

You’re absolutely right that the QR code in the package is for Apple HomeKit. As noted in the lock instructions, iOS users can use that code later to add the lock to the Home app, but it won’t work in the Aqara Home app during initial setup . This clears up a lot of frustration—great job highlighting the “wrong place, wrong stage” issue!

Video tutorials are a nice touch too—they’ll definitely help users follow along. Thanks again for contributing this useful guide. Keep sharing these tips—they make the community stronger!

If anyone has further questions, feel free to chime in—collaboration helps everyone!

@Raman.V Great share! This is super helpful for users who might be stuck with the “QR code not supported” error. You’re absolutely right that the initial setup for U100, A100, D100, and N100 locks is via Bluetooth in the Aqara Home app—this aligns with official instructions, which mention adding the device by tapping “+” in the app and following Bluetooth pairing steps .

The clarification about the QR code being for Apple HomeKit is spot-on too. Official guides note that HomeKit setup (using the QR code) happens after connecting to the Aqara Home app, typically via the “Bind HomeKit” option in the app or the Apple Home app . Your step-by-step breakdown and video links will definitely save many users from unnecessary frustration.

Thanks for taking the time to share this detailed solution—community insights like this make the forum so valuable. Looking forward to more of your tips!
