Dimmer switch H2 EU dilemma

Hi Aqara friends,

I need some help understanding my setup and behavior of the Aqara Dimmer H2 EU (with neutral).

My setup

  • I have 5 GU10 spotlights (Aqara GU10) wired together on one switched live line.

  • The neutral wire seems to be shared from a different electrical circuit (not 100% sure, but that’s how it appears).

  • The dimmer is installed in neutral mode.

  • Wiring:

    • One output is connected to L1
    • The lights are effectively all joined on the same live line

What I noticed

After installing the dimmer, two icons appear in the Aqara app:

  • One icon shows up as a light
  • The other appears as a dimmer / wireless dimmer

My understanding is:

  • The “light” icon represents the load connected to L1 / L2
  • The other icon is the wireless (decoupled) dimmer control

When I press the physical knob, all spotlights turn ON/OFF together, which makes sense since they are on the same wire.

Problems / confusing behavior

  1. Lights going “offline”
  • When I turn the dimmer OFF using the physical knob:

    • All lights turn OFF physically
    • In the Aqara app, all GU10 lights show as “offline” except one
    • The one that stays online seems to be the light connected to L1
  • Since all lights are on the same switched live wire, why do the others go offline while only one remains online?

  1. Decoupling mode behavior
  • When decoupling mode is enabled:

    • Both icons in the Aqara app toggle ON/OFF together

    • My understanding was that:

      • One icon = physical load (L1/L2)
      • One icon = wireless dimmer
    • Shouldn’t these be independent in decoupled mode?

  1. One light behaving differently
  • With decoupling enabled:

    • The physical knob no longer cuts power (which is expected and what I want)
    • I use the knob only to control the lights wirelessly (automation / scenes)
    • This works for all lights except one (the one on L1)
  • When I turn everything OFF using the knob:

    • All lights turn OFF except that one
  • When I then turn that last light OFF from the app:

    • All lights suddenly become offline

My question

Given this behavior:

  • Is it wrong to use smart GU10 bulbs on a circuit controlled by the H2 dimmer, even in decoupled mode?
  • Would it be better to use non-smart (dumb) bulbs and handle all automation and dimming directly through the H2 dimmer instead?

Thanks in advance for your help

If you’re connecting smart lights (including Aqara bulbs), you should set the switch to ‘decoupled mode’ so the power stays always on.

Then you can create automations like:

single click → turn the light group (e.g. bulbs) on/off
rotate → light group brightness adjustment

This way, all lights stay online and are controlled via the dimmer

I’m amazed there’s not MARS on the H2 Dimmer that easily links to Aqara T2’s

Hello, this lamp will go offline after a while, after a power outage. According to your description, when you press (turn Off) all the lamps are offline.

And in the untied mode, untying is only done on the physical switch, in the app it is not untied (this is direct control of the switch).

And in lesson 7 I looked at the method of connecting smart lamps to smart switches, it is completely suitable for your problem. Automation 2.0, lesson 7. Controlling Aqara smart lamps using switches (wired and wireless)

Thank you all.
I’m going to test then report back :pray:t2::pray:t2:
