Error adding G400 to HomeKit

Just installed a new G400 wired through Ethernet with PoE. All working in the app fine, but when I try to add it to HomeKit in the app, I get the error message “Connect your phone and device to the same LAN and try again”.

All on the same router with no special configurations. Firmware is up to date. Tried restarting everything (several times).

Trying to add the doorbell directly through HomeKit by scanning the QR code on the doorbell has it just sitting and trying to connect and failing to connect to it to add it to HomeKit.

What is your network set up? What wifi system or router are you using?

Did you also restart your phone?

There’s nothing wrong with the network - it’s just a mixture of wifi plus wired ethernet. The doorbell was connected to the network using PoE. The problem is with adding it to HomeKit through the app (the error message is from the app) saying that it is not on the same LAN which is blatantly untrue. The only difference is that one is connected via ethernet and the other is via wifi.

Yes, I tried restarting everything several times.

Not suggesting something is wrong with your network, but that your topology might give a clue to the issue. Oh well!

It’s not connecting directly through HomeKit either. It can be seen in the Aqara app and it is all working fine, it’s just the adding to HomeKit that isn’t working.

Hi there and welcome to the forum.what Apple device do you have as a main border router?and that Apple device is connected to the same router/ WiFi?because there is something wrong connected that is why you get that error on Apple home app.i have an Deco X50 I am using the Smart WiFi with just one name an password and all works perfectly I have an G3 camera witch never failed to be added on HomeKit by scanning the code.

I’ve got several devices - Apple TVs and HomePods. They rotate which one is the main device, so couldn’t say what the main one is. They are all connected to the same router and there is no issue with all the other HomeKit devices added to the network.

Ok I personally I set my Apple TV 4K as the only border router as when it is set to automatically and the Apple home app change them each time that does could mess you smart home stability.now you have never added the doorbell to your Apple home right?more what error do you get when you try to add it from aqara app?also did you try factory reset it after eliminating it from aqara app by pressing 10 times in an row on the button not sure if this works for doorbells and my be try adding it to HomeKit directly after reset see if that will work

In Apple Home you don’t get to define which node is the Thread Border Router, only which node is the Apple Home Master. That is not the same thing. e.g. I have set my tv to be my Master Controller, but it is actually one of my HomePod mini’s which is the TBR.

I see you have added to the app, and then are using the QR code to add to Apple Home.

Have you tried connecting to Apple Home from the Aqara App? It’s in settings.

That was the first thing I tried - adding it from the Aqara App. That’s when I was getting the error about not being on the same LAN. I tried it in the HomeKit app as well using the QR code and that doesn’t work either.

How have you set your apple tv to be the “master controller”? As far as I’m aware, you can’t specify a master and it decides which device will be the master out of all the devices on the network

  1. On the main page of your Apple Home app, tap the “…” in the top right hand corner.
  2. Select “Home Settings”
  3. scroll down to, and select, “Home Hubs & Bridges”
  4. That will show you the current Active Home Hub, and below that it will have “Automatic Selection” which, in your case will be on.
  5. Turn off “Automatic Selection”
  6. Choose the hub you want.

Thanks. I think that might be a relatively new thing since I last tried to do that.

It still doesn’t help with the adding of the doorbell though

I have just done a factory reset of the doorbell and then just installed it straight into homekit using the code on the back and it has worked. So it looks like there is something wrong with the Aqara app adding it to homekit and also something that the app does during the setup that prevents it from being added using the code on the back once it has been registered in the app.

I guess there is nothing I need to use the app for if I have it registered in HomeKit. Don’t know whether to bother trying to set it up in the Aqara app as well, or whether that will even work now

The selecting of preferred hub is not that new, but now you know.

What you’ve done would have been my next suggestion.

You can still add it to the Aqara app. You kind of need to to get updates, etc.

Yeah I didn’t explain well but ether way the same steeps you just wrote it was my next message only that I waited for him to answer .but you got it :+1:t2::facepunch:t2:

Trying to add it to the Aqara app now and having issues still!
I go in and select “Add Accessory”. It finds the doorbell and I select it and then it requests the pairing number. So I enter that and then it says “bluetooth timed out” and the options are “cancel” and “reset device”. I’ve tried it several times and I’m stood with the phone inches away from the doorbell each time. Will “reset device” reset it and remove it from HomeKit? I don’t think it should be this difficult!

I just tried the “Reset Device” option. It told me to press and hold the button on the back for 10 seconds. I did that and then it successfully added it to the Aqara app. But then it stopped working in HomeKit. I tried adding it in the Aqara app to HomeKit again and it failed with the same response as originally “Same LAN”.

So I just did a factory reset and added it to HomeKit manually again and it is in there. But it looks like it can’t have it in both places at the same time. So I can’t ever do any firmware updates.

Well once you add an matter/thread device to HomeKit then it should show to add it on aqara when aqara app opens.you do not need to press the button again as that it like an reset of the device this is why on HomeKit disappeared .now if the first pairing code fails when you try adding it to aqara home app try a few codes as sometimes an code of two can give you such issues but then after a few tries you will find the right one.ether way keeping it on HomeKit and keep trying you won’t loose nothing just do not press the button no mater what

What do you mean, “try a few codes” ? There’s only one pairing code on the back of the doorbell. When I try to add it to the Aqara app without pressing the reset button, it says Bluetooth timeout

I do not know exactly if on Apple home app you have the option “Turn On Pairing Mode” if you check on the doorbell setting on Apple home app right on the bottom as this generates cods each time you press it on this option I was referring but I didn’t knew that you know about it.see if you have that option.
