FP300 - Matter vs Zigbee?

So first, I got my FP300 today, and… It’s early to conclude, but hot damn so far it’s rock friggin solid. It’s working vastly better than my FP2 was - I’m so psyched!!

But second - the app indicates there are different features available if you bind it Zigbee vs Matter… Does anyone know the pros and cons of either way?

Looking at other devices like the w100 you functions binding it to Zigbee than you do on Matter, so probably go that route to test all functions.

I recall reading

  1. Battery life is better with Zigbee (3yrs Zigbee vs 2yrs Matter)
  2. Aqara app supports more custom settings when in Zigbee.
  3. You could argue Zigbee is easier to manage

There are many more differences depending on how you have things set up but trying to keep your answer simple those two stand out the most.

Mine is failing to switch to the Zigbee firmware with a "Download failed (Code: 30204). The Thread firmware update downloaded though.

There a very brief additional error popup at the bottom of the screen “java.lang.Class<com.lumi.moudle.access.model.entity.OTAFirmwareEntity…” and the rest it cut off.

I have exactly the same error “Download failed (Code: 30204)”.
Someone has been able to switch successfully to Zigbee?

Having played with it on Matter over the weekend and putting Zigbee on it now the extra features are:

  • Presence Detection options (mmWave/PIR/Both)
  • Indicator light
  • Light/Temperature Humidity detection frequency
  • Detection range
  • AI spacial learning trigger

Thank you - this is exactly the detail I was looking for!

That’s more than enough reason to not use matter then!

Yes I started with Matter but then switched to Zigbee with no problem. Just make sure the devices is updated with latest FW before switching, that’s what I did. Good luck

Just saying :face_with_hand_over_mouth::wink:

Do you need an Aqara hub to switch to zigbee?

No, just your smartphone

You need an Aqara hub for using the Zigbee protocol

Once the ZigBee firmware is installed on the device you can use it with the ZigBee hub you want. I’m using it with Home Assistant and the USB Connect ZBT-1 dongle.
