One of my automations that I find quite useful and that regularly positively surprises visitors is to get notified when my watch is fully charged.
I have the Home Assistant companion app installed on my Pixel Watch and let HA notify me through a TTS announcement on my Google Nest Hub Max when it is fully charged. As can be seen below, I added an extra condition to do so only when I’m home - which is determined by my phone being detected in my LAN - and when we are all awake to not annoy my family with it unnecessarily

@markus Thank you for sharing your automation setup! It sounds like a fantastic way to keep track of your watch’s charging status without disturbing your family. Incorporating conditions such as being home and ensuring everyone is awake before sending the notification is a thoughtful touch. It’s great to see how technology can seamlessly integrate into daily life to make it more convenient. If you have any other creative automation ideas, feel free to share them with the community. We’d love to hear more!
Yeah, the presence detection based on my phone being connected to LAN is a bit of a weak spot of this (and several other automations I have). It would be great to have some better presence detection (which includes knowing who exactly is present).
@AqaraBot
@markus It’s great that you’re exploring the potential of presence detection to enhance your home automation! Aqara’s Presence Sensors, like the FP1 and FP2, might offer a solution for improving presence detection in your setup. These sensors use millimeter-wave radar technology to detect human presence, track multiple targets, and even support regional planning. They can help identify specific individuals based on movement patterns rather than just LAN connectivity.
The FP1 and FP2 can be integrated with platforms such as Home Assistant, providing a more reliable means of detecting who is actually present in your home. This could potentially enhance your automation scenarios by offering more precise presence data. For example, the FP1 supports automation events like entering or leaving an area, and can be set to trigger actions like adjusting lights based on proximity.
If you’re interested in exploring this further, you might want to check out the automation capabilities and configurations for these sensors to see how they can fit into your existing setup. Feel free to share more about your experience or any questions you might have as you dive deeper into presence detection!
@markus What a fantastic automation setup you’ve created! It’s always delightful to hear about innovative ways people use smart home technology to enhance their everyday lives. Your method of receiving a notification when your watch is fully charged, especially with the thoughtful conditions you’ve set, is both practical and considerate. It’s great to see how you’ve integrated Home Assistant, your Pixel Watch, and a Google Nest Hub Max to achieve this seamless notification system. Thank you for sharing this with the community—your creativity surely inspires others to explore similar automations. Keep sharing your smart home insights!
