I would like to know from @AqaraOfficial if there are plans to provide sensitivity settings for UWB, you can read on my review how bad it is working for my home setup.
A game changer, especially for my wife who never carries her phone but always has her Apple Watch. UWB access rocks! I work in the world of high end access control and our products support Apple and Bluetooth credentials. My old house unfortunately does not lend itself to running wires so Aqara fits my needs. Started this home automation journey with Google / Yale and then Eufy. Neither was adequate from an electromechanical or as a secure credential from my personal perspective. Lessons learned.
After taking care to properly align my door and latches, the lock/unlock process has been flawless and the secure Apple credential via UWB is as well.
I used to think my Schlage Encode Plus was the end‑game deadbolt, but the moment Aqara announced the U400, it became a day‑one purchase and has absolutely lived up to the hype.
The standout feature is UWB unlocking. I can just walk up to the door and it unlocks instantly, without needing to take out my phone or tap anything, and it still feels magical weeks later. On top of that, the U400 gives plenty of ways to get in: UWB hands‑free unlock, tap‑to‑unlock via Home Key, a fast fingerprint reader, PIN codes, and even a physical key for emergencies, so everyone in the household has an option that works for them.
After a few weeks of daily use, the experience has been rock‑solid. Arriving home and having the door quickly unlock as I walk up never gets old, and it makes every other smart lock feel a bit dated. If you want a deadbolt that truly makes your house feels like a smart home, the Aqara U400 sets a new bar.
I had a little bit of trouble with set-up on mine Bluetooth wouldn’t connect unless I was foot away. I couldn’t add a admin password or any user passwords and fingerprints, it would just keep failing And then I couldn’t connect it to my M3 hub but eventually I got it running. And I was kind of disappointed at the u400 settings that’s offered in the aqara app, My u50 has way more settings then the u400 has which I thought was really odd. But to be honest I really didn’t expect much from the u400 because I’ve kind of learned from experience that when aqara releases a new product half of the features dont work And there’s a lot of instability problems, but I know they will eventually get fixed and running good lol.
I haven’t been able to experience the UWB because I have a s25 ultra as my daily. Supposedly smartthings is going to bring UWB some time this year, I can’t wait.
(4/5) — Aqara U400 Door Lock: Big Upgrade, Small Speed Bumps
I recently swapped out my Level Lock for the Aqara U400, and yeah… this is a game changer.
The good stuff:
• Rock-solid hardware – feels premium and well-built right out of the box
• Straightforward install – no weird surprises, didn’t turn into a Saturday project
• UWB is the real MVP – fast, reliable, and miles better than what I had before
• Battery life has been great so far – early days, but promising
• Aqara app management is excellent – deep controls, automations, and user management all in one place
The bumps:
• Setup flow could be smoother. I paired it in the Aqara app and connected it to the Aqara M3 Hub without issues, but hit an error when adding it to Apple Home. It eventually worked, but not without a little head-scratching.
Suggested improvements:
• Streamline the Apple HomeKit onboarding – fewer steps, clearer handoff
• Include an extra battery – small thing, but would be a nice touch
Bottom line:
Highly recommend the Aqara U400. UWB alone makes it worth the upgrade, and Aqara’s software features are top notch. A little polish needed on the HomeKit setup, but once it’s in, this lock absolutely delivers.
