Can someone recommend a reliable smart plug. We used Vocolink but they kept dropping off.

I have been happy with the Meross, TP-Link, and to help my Philips Hue system connect better, the Philips Hue plug.

I’ve had great results with the eve smart plugs and even the Kasa HomeKit versions as well.

I’m using a TP-Link smart plug. Two have been working flawlessly. One has been a bit flakey.

Depends on the use case. I’ve been happy with Aqara’s functionality, but don’t like that it blocks the second plug on the wall.

For lamps I use Lutron Caseta, but that is my system for all of my smart switches. Works amazing, but needs a hub.

I recently switched from Feit plugs to Meross, as the former were not compatible with Apple Homekit. The Meross plugs have been very reliable.

Interesting. I have a TP router. But therir stuff isn’t Apple HomeKit.

Been using Eve both a plug-in type and the outlet, both Matter over thread and have been rock solid

Honestly to reduce network traffic zigbee smart plugs connected to a hub is the way to go. Aqara is reliable but does take up space if on the lower outlet

I was a big fan of the sOnOff smart plugs connected to Home Assistant via eWeLink integration. I had probably 10-12 sOnOffs installed around the house and started to see huge network latency. After some research I discovered that the sOnOffs use the BuffaloLab firmware and they are notorious for raising the noise ceiling on 2.4 ghz wifi networks.

Over the holidays I split out my Wi-Fi networks and stood up a dedicated IoT Network for smart devices. Along with that I swapped out most of my smart devices to Aqara devices, connected via Zigbee to Aqara M3 and M2 hubs. Zigbee networks are self healing and create their own mesh network without being on Wi-Fi. My 2.4 ghz utilization dropped from 81% to 36%.

Whatever you decide to go with, I agree with @nick1029 and you should try to ensure they aren’t wifi devices.

Honestly I have never had any problems with my Aqara smart plugs (have approx 150 at 7 different locations). Only problem is they are rated for max 2300W and would love to see then up the to 3100-3200w in the next gen. Work on WiFi but also via the hub (like M3) where they will still work locally if the WiFi drops.

There are many great reliable Matter options these days - crossing a lot of budgets and features from simple on/off to energy monitoring. What features are most important to you?

I’ve got Meross currently. I want to try the Ikea ones I recently heard about when they are in the US (assuming they will be). I haven’t bought Aqara ones yet. I wish someone would make good Apple Home in wall outlets.

I actually like the Aqara smart plug for lighter applications.

Can usually find it on sale at amazon too.
