I just bought my first Aqara H2 switch and M100 hub to use with Home Assistant. I have tried following the connection instructions and wind up getting an “Unknown Error: -2”
I have tried to connect this to different networks with same issue
Xfinity AP with 5GHz and 2.4GHz seperate SSIDs
TP-Link 2.4GHz extender
Rukus ZoneDirector 3000 with multiple AP’s (2.4GHZ and 5GHz combined with band steering
When I tried to use my phone’s hotspot set to 2.4GHz only it was not able to see the hotspot SSID.
I don’t have any other devices to try other than an OLD Linksys WRT54G sitting in my closet for about 15 years…
The only other things I can think of that will help is that the app finds the device, connects to it, allows me to choose WiFi and enter password, send’s configuration and then gives and error after the status displayed is “connecting”. The lights on the front blink a pattern in blue then go solid white after the error pops. The pattern is the same every attempt.
I have tried resetting the app by clearing the data and then ultimately uninstalling, restarting phone, then reinstalling.
Nothing I have tried will change the error. With three networks failing it would seem to point to a problem on the M100 or a problem with my phone.
It just occurred to me I could try another older device I have collecting dust. I shall get my other Android device and try with that. If it changes anything I will report back.
I remember seeing International somewhere in the app. Got it from Amazon… If thats the problem this is the second time Amazon sold me an Internation version of something that… had issues.
No. More a really light brown. And now I am looking at the box it has disposal instructions in French… 10 different languages on the back. Definitely not packaged for US only sale.
As this is an Amazon purchase return it as faulty and get another one. If the problem persists with another M100 then the issue will be some incompatibility or setting the M100 does not like.
If you have a fried or family with a completely different setup you could try on their Wi-Fi setup.
Because you wrote WiFi range extenders, are you sure that both devices (hub and smartphone) was connectet to the TP-Link extender on the same network (2.4 GHz) and not isolated?
Please also check the following points:
Check Wi-Fi settings
set Encryption to WPA2-PSK (AES) → no WPA3 or mixed modes
Wi-Fi name and password have no special characters or spaces → use only letters and numbers for testing
Wi-Fi channel is set manually to 1, 6, or 11 (not “Auto”)
Check router settings
Make sure the following options are enabled or disabled correctly:
DHCP enabled + Free IP addresses → the Hub needs an automatic IP
AP Isolation / Client Isolation disabled
Multicast and Broadcast enabled
Check DNS settings
Sometimes the DNS or firewall blocks cloud access.
Set your DNS server to 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare)
Do not use filtered DNS like 1.1.1.2 (No Malware) or 1.1.1.3 (No Malware or Adult Content)
If you use Pi-hole or AdGuard, temporarily disable them
Check smartphone
Make sure the Aqara Home app is up to date
Enable Bluetooth
Disable Mobile Data
Check phone settings if Aqaqa Home app has access to the local network (and access to Apple Home on iOS)
Allow Location permission (required on Android)
Or try setting up the hub with another phone (iPhone running iOS 18 or newer)
@gafich10 Can he actually change the region in the app settings so that a connection can be established if he has a hub for a different region? It seems to only involve two devices, so there shouldn’t be any problems with testing it.
All of those things listed have been tried already. I can also confirm that every attempt to connect the M100 I had been certain my phone was on the network I was trying to connect it to. I tried 3 different devices running different version of Android. I checked every other setting you mentioned and, when available, was appropriately set. A lot of those setting are not available on the TP Link extender or the Xfinity hardware. The ZoneDirector is the only one with those options. I have also played with region setting in the app and was able to find one difference. Mainland China was not able to see the device and France (it appears the box was designed with a lot of French on it) gave the same error.
I will return it and try another after I get a response from Aqara customer service.
Still not having any luck getting it to work. I am returning it today.
I found an Espressif board with an ESP32 S3 and an H2 on it that is a border router and zigbee gateway when running the OpenThread firmware. Too bad I couldnt get Aqara to work Hopefully this will be the solution. It will fit in well with all my other DIY devices! I am still left bothered by not knowing why this M100 was such an epic fail. I have only had one other networking issue. My Bambu X1C would not receive a file from the slicer and I had to put it on its own wireless network (the TP link extender) and now its fine. Its friends, the P1S and H2D, work perfectly fine on my WiFi. I am seriously considering installing a high speed CANbus and ethernet in my home from room to room so I don’t have to worry about this wireless stuff anymore. Such a headache sometimes.
Thanks for all the attempts to help me fix the issue. I appreciate the time it takes to respond.
