🛑 Regulation Problem: New Aqara Radiator Thermostat W600 – Unstable Heating (ON/OFF)

0.0.0_2442 Is the new Firmeware

Thanks, I actually received the same one earlier, but it didn’t help much. The valves simply won’t shut off when the temperature in the apartment is exceeded. I don’t know, maybe I have a bad set.

No, answer so far? My guess would be, after I resetted the W600 to load Thread and then ZigBee again, you need to have a Aqara Hub!? I did not find any obvious way to update via the App with bluetooth.

Hello, I have firmware 2442, stability is normal, deviation within 0.5 but in PID mode partial heating of the battery is supported at -0.5°C and at +0.5°C it blocks the battery. Once again, W600 works in PID mode, it is not just open/closed.

Here is a description of the types of TVR operation, if you have time you can read it for a general understanding of the operation of W600 Understanding TRV Control Algorithms: A Comprehensive Guide

Thanks for the link to the issue. I’ve actually read it before. Some parts are clear to me, but others aren’t. In the meantime, I’ve managed with a temperature sensor that I taped to the radiator and set up an automation to regulate it. I just don’t understand why they didn’t use the firmware from the older E1 valve, which worked flawlessly. I bought the newer one because it looked better designed, and I hoped the brackets wouldn’t break on this model. :+1:

Development must move forward. Unfortunately, things don’t always go smoothly.

But it should not be the norm to release unfinished and faulty products. This is also not helpful for Aqara’s reputation.

Any news on the question, whether it is possible to update the firmware without using an aqara hub - e. g. with the aqara home app using Bluetooth?

I had a longish discussion with Aqara support about exactly that topic.

TL;DR:

No it’s currently not possible.

Quote from their mail:

“Generally, firmware updates are performed through the Aqara app. Therefore, we recommend that you first bind your device to the Aqara app. Since the updated firmware is currently in the experimental stage, even Aqara users do not have permission to upgrade the firmware; we need to whitelist the account.”

And from another mail:

“We estimate that it will be difficult to update device firmware through other third-party platforms. This is because it also requires unified authorization for third-party apps, which would be very difficult to implement.”

Background information:

At least for Matter (don’t know about Zigbee) the firmware update process is standardized. The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) maintains a Distributed Compliance Ledger (DCL) where manufacturers can list their firmware updates including OTA URLs: Distributed Compliance Ledger

Some Aqara devices, such as the Smart Lock U300, already have firmware updates listed in the DCL, which suggests Aqara is familiar with this mechanism.

When I pointed this out to the support, I got this answer:

“Yes, the W600 can update its firmware via Matter, but our default firmware update process is through the Aqara app.”

Since the current firmware update is still in beta phase, they will not publish it to 3rd party channels, yet.

Yeahhh… But not through the aqara app alone. Otherwise it would be possible to do it via Bluetooth. As Bluetooth is also used to to switch the firmware, that should be possible.

So the process to support only the update via a aqara hub seems to be a selling point for the hub and no necessity.

The problem is that we cannot bind the W600 to the Aqara Home app without an Aqara Hub. That is very sad!
I would love to be able to update the firmware of my W600 without an Aqara hub.

Yeas, sad und unnecessary.

I, to, would love to update the firmware without a hub.

I don’t know, maybe the W600 will be returned. I have not decided yet.

Hi folks, I’m facing the same issues with 3x W600’s, I don’t see any firmware update on the App. Using Zigbee, current firmware version is 0.0.0_1839.

How do we get the updates?

Hello, welcome to the forum. The principle of updating Aqara products.

@Solmath Thanks a lot. Now I know I have to send it back. No software updates without a hub is a no-go

Somehow I posted this in the wrong thread…

Today had to heat the room the W600 is in.
Was set at 17, now to 20°C

Turned on and started heating:

As you can see it went up to max 18 and then went all over the place and then setteled around 17° while it was still set to 20.

M3 firmware:

W600 firmware:

Hello, firmware 2442 works +/-0.5°С stably (Zigbee).

Then I hope I get it soon here in the Netherlands.

I created a topic to provide an overview of the current state of the W600.
