Looking forward to see all the creative use cases!
I’d use the Power Plug H2 to monitor the energy consumption of our dish washer and washing machine. In Home Assistant there’s an integration called WashData that learns what kind of cleaning program you use based on energy consumption!

Although I was too late to sign up to the H2 trial, I shared one use case here, utilizing another brand’s Matter plug for automatic arming/disarming.

I use another Matter plug to monitor my work desk’s electricity consumption and to turn the plug on/off via an Aqara Wireless Mini Switch. The plug controls power to my USB dock, inc. monitor and webcam, where removing power provides another layer of privacy/security.

I hope Aqara would release a weather-proof outdoor plug in the future, so I could use that to control and time my outdoor lights.

I connected the Power Plug H2 between the wall socket and my washing machine and integrated it into Home Assistant. The main purpose is to monitor power consumption and detect when the washing cycle is finished.

How I use it

  • The Power Plug H2 measures the current power usage of the washing machine
  • In Home Assistant, I track the power value (W)
  • When the power drops to a low level for a few minutes (machine is no longer actively running), I treat it as the end of the cycle
  • At that moment, a notification is automatically sent to my iPhone

Result

I don’t need to check the washing machine manually anymore. I just get a notification when it’s done and go unload it. It works reliably because it’s based on real power consumption, not a timer.

Why it works well

  • simple setup with no modification to the appliance
  • accurate detection based on real usage
  • instant notification without delay
  • easily reusable for other appliances (dryer, dishwasher)

The automation in Home Assistant is very simple—just monitoring power usage and triggering an action when it drops below a defined threshold.

The Outdoor Smartplug was shown on the IFA last year too… so I’m sure we will get one this year too :x2fozabcpx9xrbxmdpseb3_61:

I actually ended up using mine for water heater. It allows me to basically turn off water heater when we’re not around, like long weekends, vacations and so on. It’s quite handy, because i can just remotely turn it on just a few hours before reaching home, so by the time i’m there - water is already warm.

Old plug wasn’t able to do so, as it was triggering power protection, due to having lower amperage. This one is just perfect, doesn’t complain, it does the job. And as a bonus, you can easily see power consumption
