I currently have an American Standard thermostat installed.
Has anyone here had experience replacing an American Standard thermostat with a smart thermostat (Aqara or another brand)?
I’m mainly trying to understand whether systems like mine would be compatible with the upcoming Aqara W200 when it becomes available.
Need much more information in order to know what equipment you’re actually using. American Standard (same company as Trane) makes a variety of HVAC systems. Traditional systems use simple 24VAC wiring between the thermostat and the Condenser/Air Handler. These systems are what would be compatible with the W200 thermostat, I believe.
Newer, higher end systems use ‘communicating’ thermostats which are much more proprietary. They communicate with the rest of the system over a serial/network connection, instead of just simple 24VAC signals for Heat/Cool, Fan, etc… I do not believe the W200 thermostat can replace one of these proprietary communicating thermostats.
Often, the simplest way to know if to gently remove the thermostat from its wall-base-mount. Take a picture and then let us know what you see in terms of the wiring. If you see multiple wires connected to terminals like G, O/B, W1, Y1, R, C - then chances are good you have an old-school 24VAC thermostat that the W200 might be able to replace.
Unfortunately, that appears to be a Trane/American Standard ‘communicating’ thermostat based on the wiring.
Data High and Data Low are not traditional thermostat wire terminals.

I believe it would require a new HVAC system.
Most “communicating” HVAC systems are fairly high-end models, often with much higher SEER ratings than other systems. Thus, if you’re not having any issues with your HVAC system, I definitely would not recommend replacing it just to be able to use an Aqara thermostat.
Instead, you might be able to replce your existing American Standard/Trane communicating thermostat with a higher end model that support smart home integration (assuming your existing thermostat does not do so already?)

I submitted my wiring info online and got “Based on your wire selection, the Thermostat Hub W200 may not be compatible with your system.” See the attached diagram.
Unfortunately, I didn’t realize the compatibility problem before I ordered and installed it. The Carrier HVAC system worked fine with my Nest thermostat, but the W200 gave me the wiring is wrong error, and it instructed me to check for loose connections. I kept fooling around making sure the wires were the correct length and were properly stripped, but no luck. It was recognized by my Aqara app, so I thought it was definitely a wiring problem or my faulty installation. However, after reinstalling for the fourth time I gave up and reluctantly reverted to my Nest.
I hope the compatibility gets resolved soon, because I want to integrate the W200 to work with my other Aqara devices.
I also uploaded this info to Reddit to see if anyone encounters the same problem.
Pictures of how the Nest is wired, as well as how you attempted to wire the Aqara W200 would really be helpful to allow the community to assist you.
I did’t upload photos, but I uploaded a snapshot of the connected wires Rc, C, Y1, OB and W2/Aux. I’m now uploading a photo of the connections the W200 and the Nest detected. Also a photo of the actual Nest connections; sorry, don’t have a photo of the W200 connections because I returned it. However, as you can see I had the same colored wires connected to both thermostats.

Did I understand you correctly that my HVAC system will show as compatible and work correctly by connecting the W2/Aux I have to the W1 terminal?
I know that if I use the Aqara Thermostat Hub W200 Compatibility Checker, it indicates that the configuration using W1 will work, but I’m presently using W2/Aux on my Nest, and the checker indicates that it’s not compatible. Thanks.
Their link I provided for wiring says:
“5. My old thermostat has a W2 wire. How do I wire it for auxiliary heat?
Answer: If you only have W2 (no W wire), connect the W2 wire to the W1 terminal . Leave all other connections as normal.”
