W600 thermostat: Collection of infos and open issues

Have you had a chance to test out this firmware?
W100 is now selectable as temp source for w600 in thread mode. However it doesn’t seem to use the input.

It is already supported by z2m. But very poorly. There should be an expose for the external temp input at least. If you can connect an external sensor like the w100 to it, there should be an expose. Seems like someone has to do investigations with it.

For the Sonoff TRVZB it took long till they implemented the external sensor.

If you could control the valve position manually, all temperature problems should be gone.

Im watching the curves of my TRVs every day and iam very unhappy.

I bought 7 TRVs on Amazon, and i had alot conversation with the aqara support. They gave me back 50% of my invested money in this 7 W600.

Sounds like an apology from aqara for something they cant fix / doesnt want to fix.

I just bought one. as a test. but it failed the test.

I need some more thermostats, but as long as the w600 acts so poorly I wont buy any more of them.

Like i said Aqara just gave me back 50% of my buying price. This was 160€!!
Its an apology to their “dont know how to fix it” tactic.

I can suggest to buy Sonoff TRVZB, Its just 23€ and integrates well in ZHA or Z2M, and they even released a PID controller firmware in january. I will go back to Sonoff. If anybody in germany is interessted in 7 W600, tell me and i can sell them.

thanks for the suggestion.

Do they reach and maintain the set temperature well? are the sonoff also very quite? can your hear them?

that’s the only thing I like about the w600, that they are so pleasantly quiet.

They are louder than the W600 for sure. But they are very quiet.

This is how they work for me. But iam using them with custom Kp and Ki parameters.
They just overshoot for 0.2°C and just go 0.1°C below the target.

They are working much better then the W600.

I wish aqara just would fix their algoritm…

any news here?

I would also like to get some news concerning the issues!

@Caroline_Zzz Give us a statement!

PID controll is not working at all. This is probably the worst TRV on the marked if it wont be fixed.

For its price it should work flawlessly.

May I ask, why you moved from sonoff, when they are so good in regulating the temperature?

Because sonoff just introduced a PID controll. Before, it was only “on/off”.
And the W600 are completely quiet. I was hopeing alot with the W600.

But i think i found out why the aqaras are working so bad.

If you read this thread, you will understand why the heating behaivor is this bad.

If you understand, that the full heatingpower only can be controlled from like 5-20% opening, and you watch the aqaras valve positioning, then you can understand.

The “adaptive pid controller” isnt really that adaptive of the w600.

I think it will never be fixed, because chineses wont understand, that full waterflow in radiators mostly flows when the trv is opened only 20-30%.
And water wont flow if its below 10%.

If you read the linked github thread, you will understand it.

Great thread. Ironically, if they just deleted the entire PID controller and went back to on/off it would work better when such non-linear valve dynamics are present.

I will read the link. Thanks for the pointer.

Yes, exactly my thoughts.
So, its basically an all-trv-problem. But in reality, the W600 doesnt adjust the opening correctly. The ITherm should increase and the valve should have open little bit more and more or otherwise.

For me, its just a static algorithm how they work.
This thread was gold to understand why the W600 is working so bad.

Im currently doing my research on my trvs (sonoffs) and trying to find the sweetspots where the heating begins and where maximum heatingpower is reached.

With an additional temperaturesensor attached to the radiator, you could let run an auto-calibration-cycle.

But the best thing aqara could do now is to give us the opportunity to set the valve position by hand (sadly it would only work great for Homeassistant users)

OR

do it like Sonoff, and let us configure a “hard” minimum and maximum position. Then you could let it work only in this area.

Funny: Aqara just removed the existing w600 from Amazon and is now selling an ‚improved version‘ of the w600 with some fresh Reviews :joy:

Now I really wanna have a refund for my 6 w600 and the hub. I was a fan, but after the w600 experience… Sorry, I guess I will give up now!

What is improved?

Are the old ones scrap?

@david3 You seem to be experiencing an issue with understanding firmware improvements and whether old versions are obsolete. You can contact customer support for assistance. Contact the Aqara Home App Customer Service Team (Profile> Help & Feedback > Customer Service) or scan the QR code:

This will be more efficient. If you do not have an Aqara Home account, “Please click here” to create a ticket.

Aqara apolised when they gave me a refund of 50% for my 7 W600. I got refundet 160€ from them just from sending 3-4 emails around.

Thats pretty weird. There is something going on.
