What version of the matter protocol does the M3 hub support?

Version 1.5 was released in January of 2025. Does the M3 hub implement that version? Is it a full implementation of the protocol?

When I see things like the Eve Energy Outlet say that you can only do energy monitoring with Samsung Smart Things, I’m trying to understand if Eve didn’t follow the Matter protocol correctly or if companies like Aqara haven’t fully implemented Matter yet.

Thanks

I looked around at the settings of my M3 hub in the Aqara Home app. I couldn’t find the answer. In the FAQ section this was the closest I could find:

Good luck

Statement from June 18 this year:

However, something must have changed with firmware version ≥ 4.3.7, as it is pointed out here:

@Brudy Could you provide any up-to-date information on the Matter version used on the M3 Hub?

Before Matter 1.3 included energy reporting in the standard, Eve used a custom cluster to report energy and that was available for platforms where explicit support was added, namely SmartThings and Home Assistant.

The Eve Energy plug at least was updated to Matter 1.3 time ago so it reports energy the standard way to every Matter 1.3 compatible platform. Don’t know about the Outlet, if it’s already updated to Matter 1.3 it will be visible in Aqara too.

Sometimes the information you read is outdated, especially with Matter that evolves quite fast.

The Matter 1.5 specification was officially released on November 20, 2025. This update introduces support for cameras, closures, soil sensors, and enhanced energy management features

Correct - Matter 1.5 is brand new, not released in January of 2025. Aqara will need time to implement it.

So currently, the answer is Matter 1.4.
