I’m hoping the community might have some ideas for how to solve a puzzle I have with light dimming automations triggered by the hours around sunset.
I want my lighting to gradually dim in the evening, but be able to adjust that dimming manually when needed.
I am automating within the Aqara M3. I really don’t want to bridge to another ecosystem. I’m sure I can use adaptive lighting in Apple Home, HA, etc but that requires extra hardware.
At the time of writing there isn’t a way to add an “acting time” that has a sunset based start time AND a sunset based end time.
I could trigger a number of automations that reduce brightness to set amounts throughout the evening but…
…I also want to be able to override the automated dim to make the room brighter/darker, without the next set automation potentially turning the brightness up or down again.
What I have set up for now is to call a Brightness- scene at sunset based times. Then if I want it brighter or dimmer, I press a switch to call the appropriate brightness+ or brightness- scene.
This works fine, however the plus and minus is in BIG 25% steps. I can’t find a way to change that percentage anywhere. If there was a way to adjust up or down by a percentage of my choice, then problem solved.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, what is the locked “adjust brightness” option? Is this option unlockable? Or do I need specific hardware or bulbs to access that, if at all?
I actually think I followed your lesson when I set up similar scenes and automations earlier in the year.
This worked, however at this latitude, sunset ranges from around 4pm in December and 9pm in July. I found that the acting time ranges I initially chose needed changing as the months passed.
The windows of the house are aligned East and West, so adapting lighting to match the sunset is important here.
I can set exact brightness levels for sunset based times, however it’s being able to adjust lighting occasionally with the H1 wireless and not have the next automation break that.
Do you have a light sensor? I placed my sensor in a window, and made automations for the device that adjust the light throughout the day (depending on the weather/light outside).
