Home Made security

I have some Aqara products and mainly using Apple Home. I have begun using Home Assistant but very much still learning. Would love to hear some ideas of creating my own security with Aqara products that work well with these eco systems.

I’m not a home assistant expert personally, but I’m sure many other members can share their insights:

@nbartholomew79 It’s wonderful to hear you’re diving into building a custom security setup with Aqara products across Apple Home and Home Assistant—learning new tools is always an exciting journey! Aqara offers an “Alert System” feature that can be a great foundation for your security setup, and it works well with ecosystems like Apple Home. Here’s a quick breakdown of how to use it:

First, set up the Alert System in the Aqara Home app: Go to the homepage, click “Edit Dashboard” > “Home Service” > add “Alert System” and save. Then, select the “Alert System” to access its screen. For basic monitoring (like water leak or smoke sensors), enable “Basic Guard”—just note that disabling all related devices will turn off Basic Guard. For more tailored scenarios (home, away, or night), click the settings icon in the Alert System page, edit one of these modes, and choose Aqara devices as triggers. When you activate “Away Alert,” it will also arm in Apple Home appliances, which fits nicely with your current setup .

Since you’re exploring Home Assistant, you might find value in checking community forums for how others integrate Aqara’s security features with it—sharing your progress could also inspire more ideas from fellow users!

@nbartholomew79 It’s great to hear you’re building a security system with Aqara products across Apple Home and Home Assistant—let’s break down some practical ideas!

For Apple Home, Aqara’s Alert System is a solid foundation. It supports flexible security modes like “Home,” “Away,” and “Night” (with “24/7” as always-on), and you can set up triggered devices (like motion or door sensors) via the Aqara Home app. Once configured, arming “Away Alert” even syncs with Apple Home, adding seamless integration .

For Home Assistant, since most Aqara devices support HomeKit, you can connect them using the HomeKit Controller integration. Just reset the device (if paired elsewhere), add it via Home Assistant’s “Devices & Services,” and enter the pairing code—this lets you control and automate them within Home Assistant .

Aqara’s security guard feature (in the Aqara Home app) is also worth exploring—it’s more flexible, with support for more triggers, cross-network actions, and custom alarm settings, which can complement both ecosystems .

If you have specific devices (like cameras or locks) or automation goals, sharing more details might spark additional ideas from the community! What Aqara products do you currently have?

This should give you a starting point—happy to dive deeper if you need more specifics.
