Does the U400 have a Zigbee version planned? Has anyone compared the U100 to the U400?

I bought the U400 to upgrade my older U100 lock which I’ve had for about two years. The biggest selling point for me was the UWB functionality.

I want to provide my honest feedback regardless of points or any kind of benefit for posting here.

The hardware installation was very simple up to a point which I’ll talk about in the next paragraph. Since I was coming from another Aqara lock I didn’t have to switch out the strike plate which was great. I set up the smart lock with Apple Home and Alexa and both work flawlessly.

On the downside. I didn’t understand the part about needing a Hub with I first set it up. Coming from the older U100 I figured that the hub I had world work just fine. The E1 is not compatible with the U400 and I spent 45 mins fumbling through trying to set it up before I figured that out. I then looked online for a suitable replacement and found that the M100 had the functionality I needed to pair with the new lock so a 2 day amazon shipment arrived and I began to set it up.

Now, I had watched no less than 10 videos on the setup and everyone said that if you had an apple tv you wouldn’t need a hub, but every attempt I made to set it up without the M100 failed. Maybe I didn’t even need to do that. The point is the documentation seemed to me to differ from what the app was telling me. All it said was you need to pair with a Hub and to that point ALL the freaking Hubs are super expensive except for the one I bought. If I didn’t need it then I blew $40 and if I did then why not include it? Ultimately, I believe I didn’t need it and if I didn’t because I have no less than 5 apple tvs in my home then the app should just say, no aqara hub, no problem. If you have an apple tv, etc follow this path and we got you covered.

I just think that Saturday afternoon frustration could have been avoided.

At the end of the day though, loving life without a need for a finger print or key. I would still hightly recommend this lock,.

The U400 looks amazing! I wish it had launched a little sooner. I purchased my U100 back in November for my home, and after seeing the U400, I wish I had waited a little longer. :no_mouth:
But tbh, I love the Aqara app interface. Totally clean and tidy (without any ads). All the devices under one roof look amazing.
I wish they had more products, such as a diffuser (currently using Meross) and lamp options in the Canadian market (currently using Govee). :slightly_smiling_face:

I am just wondering why Zigbee wasn’t used. :person_shrugging:

Looks neat!

Would love to get one but I have a lock from the 1970s and would basically have to get an entirely new door or drill a bigger hole.

The timing was perfect because my August lock of 7+ years had finally died and the U400 caught my interest because of the promise of Aliro. Yes, it’s a gamble to wait but it’s worth as an Android user. I really enjoy the fact that it connects to my Home Assistant via Matter. So far I’ve been happy with the build, the look and how well it integrates into Home Assistant.

Are you Apple Watch user? i found that turning off my “Tap to unlock” on both Apple watch Homekey and Iphone Home key made my UWB work much smother and more responsive not sure if it is glitch but just my experience i had posted.

I have it connected to the M3, but I am struggling to get it connected to Apple Home. If you don’t mind me asking, how did you eventually get it to connect?

No zigbee? I wonder why that is

I had to reset the lock and I tried again to reconnect 1st to the Aqara M3 hub then to AppleKit. The 2nd time worked.

I bought the u400 when it was first released on Amazon Canada. Although I initially thought it was expensive for a lock but since I have been using it for a few weeks now, it was life changing. I no longer need to manually tap my phone to unlock or even tough the lock. It just works by unlocking it self. 100% don’t regret buying this lock at all!

SmartLockU400 The Aqara U400 is a sleek and versatile smart lock that combines robust security with convenient features. Its standout capability is multi-method unlocking, including fingerprint recognition, NFC, passcodes, and Apple Home Key support & the fantastic UWB unlocking, making it highly flexible. Installation is relatively straightforward for most standard doors, and the build quality feels solid and premium. Connectivity with Apple HomeKit and Matter ensures seamless smart home integration, and remote control via the Aqara app is reliable. The fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate & unloading is quiet, though battery life may vary depending on usage. Overall, the U400 delivers a modern, secure, and convenient smart lock experience. Unlocking using the UWB is the standout feature and when it works it is amazingly fast although not always consistent, sometimes taking a few seconds to unlock but that fortunately doesn’t happen a lot. The overall look of the lock fits into our modern aesthetic. I am very happy that Aqara moved away from AA batteries and instead used a 4,880mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack. The lock was installed on January 8th and now a month later with frequent use the battery is at 85%, where with previous Aqara locks I would burn through AA batteries, so I am very happy. I am very happy with the U400, thanks Aqara.
