If you want to know how to surprise your beloved ones, check this out!
Hello everyone
It’s my turn to share some cool automation with you.
I’ll tell you a little about automation and why it was created.
In March last year, I had to go on an urgent business trip, and the next day was my son’s birthday. Plans to give the gift to my son personally failed. My son really loves surprises and quests, so I decided to create a quest for him using smart home devices from Aqara. Looking ahead, I will say that in the end, everything turned out better than I could have imagi…

Do you always find yourself forgetting to bring an umbrella every time it rains? You might need this.
I bike to work. As I regularly ended up being surprised by rain on my way home without rain clothes, I set up an automation to warn me via a TTS announcement on my Google Nest Hub whenever I leave house.
Currently this only includes a door sensor and my Nest Hub Max. It’s realized by the Home Assistant automation shown below.

One weak spot in this set up currently is that it can’t differentiate whether someone comes home or whether someone leaves home. Combining this with a presence …

Looking for a super detailed bathroom automation guide? Here it is!
Here are some of my automations, that I really love
I use mainly HomeKit (for simplicity), but sometimes I use Aqara or combination of both.
1. Bathroom lightning
This started as simple as door open → light on and when no presence → light off, however a UX bug appeared when people unaware of the automation started using it.
My light is controlled via the Single Switch Module T1, which is wired to a physical light switch and it turned out that every single person entering the bathroom was almo…

A Simple and effective, plus a secret to surprise your visitors!
One of my automations that I find quite useful and that regularly positively surprises visitors is to get notified when my watch is fully charged.
I have the Home Assistant companion app installed on my Pixel Watch and let HA notify me through a TTS announcement on my Google Nest Hub Max when it is fully charged. As can be seen below, I added an extra condition to do so only when I’m home - which is determined by my phone being detected in my LAN - and when we are all awake to not annoy my fami…

Tired of forgetting your washed laundry in the washing machine? Here’s an ingenious trick to never miss it again!
I’m a busy dad who works from home. It’s not uncommon for me to throw in a load of laundry, start it, and then completely forget about it until my clean clothes sour. This is the reason I need a laundry automation - not to start my laundry remotely - just to remember to put the clothes in the dryer. Here’s my Aqara automation for how I accomplished this.

Check out these useful tips that can really cut your electricity bills!
Hey everyone! Wanted to share a little win I had lately using Aqara and maybe trade some tips.
I’m kind of a smart home hobbyist, not hardcore but I like tinkering. Over the past year, I noticed our energy bills creeping up, especially during winter. Nothing crazy, but annoying enough to make me go down the automation rabbit hole.
I started small — added Aqara temperature sensors and smart plugs in the living room and bedroom. Paired them with the Hub M2 and set some automations: heating only …

An ultimate smart bathroom!
I started my smart home journey many years ago. I’m definitely not a seasoned expert, but literally a user who tries a lot with my own smart home project and fails even a lot more A room which I found super-challenging to manage to get it smart enough (to fit my satisfaction) is the bathroom.
In my case, the bathroom is very small, only 1.6m (Length) x 1.8m (Width) x 2.3m (Height), or approximately 5.3" x 5.9" x 7.6". With every bathroom essential components like a toilet, basin, and sho…
